There are various techniques I try to get a natural reaction or smile from a young child or baby while taking their photograph. Sometimes my soft toy mouse works wonders, sometimes a simple animal noise will suffice. When Tim came into the studio with his parents I stumbled across another; at one point I started saying “What’s it all about?” in a common British accent, to which Tim started giggling and laughing and continued to do so every time I said it. You can see his reaction in the first shot below and it is my favourite from the session.
It actually reminds me of when my son was a small baby and he would giggle uncontrollably whenever I said the word “eight!”. Now he is a couple of years older he loves me to tell him this story
