Classical portrait: Children photography at the studio

Mira and Vikram are not the first set of twins that I’ve photographed but they are the first ones that aren’t babies. They both came to the photo studio after school a couple of weeks ago, living fairly close by in Singapore. As always, I split the session so that we could try and get some nice fine art black & white portraits of the children to start off with before a quick change of clothes (and backdrop) for more fun shots.

My favourite shot is the one of Mira below. It is a very classical looking portrait that won’t age with time. It was achieved with a 3 light setup. A large softbox to camera left, a light directly behind the camera for fill (and to give the eyes a bit of sparkle) and a light directly behind Mira to light the backdrop.
