Studio Lighting – Natural Light

Following on from my last post where I discussed how versatile the Elinchrom Octa softbox was, I thought I would show you another studio setup that I like to use. This time I don’t use the Octa as a key light at all but since it is so large I also use it as a reflector in the studio to bounce back natural light coming through the window. I’m fortunate enough to have a large floor to ceiling window in the studio which gives great diffused soft light for portraits. Photos taken with this natural light tend to be more gentle and dreamy than photos you would get through using purely flash. The reflector (or Octa) in this case is used to lift any shadows and to make sure the photo doesn’t look too contrasty

No flash was used in the image below. Lighting was purely ambient light coming through the window
