Yoga Photography at The Botanic Gardens

When Charlotte approached me to take some sporty portrait photos of her we soon focussed on a Yoga shoot outdoors. The next question was where. As with all my photo sessions preparation is key and I always try and scout a couple of locations prior to the shoot itself. This not only gives me a chance to come up with some compositional ideas but also gives me a good idea of what the lighting conditions are going to be like i.e. which direction will the sun be coming from at the time of the shoot, is there any open shade to work with etc. In Charlotte’s case, The Botanic Gardens seemed like a good starting place to scout. Having lived in Singapore for over 5 years now I’ve been to the Botanic Gardens many times but had not ventured to the Bamboo Garden section and surroundings before. So I was pleasantly surprised to find how peaceful it was there and how uncrowded it was during the late afternoon. It would be perfect.

As for the shoot itself, all I can say is how deeply impressed I was with the Yoga poses Charlotte came up with during our 90 minutes together. Fortunately we had time at the end of the session to also get some more relaxed portraits, just as the sun was setting.

Here are some of my favourite images from the session:
